Fung Film Screening: Die Fälschung (Circle of Deceit)

Film Synopsis: In 1976, Georg Laschen (Bruno Ganz), a German journalist, travels to Beirut to cover the Lebanese Civil War. As he struggles to understand the violent conflict, Laschen begins to doubt his own position as a war correspondent. The director Volker Schlöndorff shot large parts of the movie on location in Beirut. Circle of Deceit, therefore, contains unique footage of the city during the Lebanese Civil War.

Before the screening, Joseph Ben Prestel, Fung Global Fellow and Assistant Professor of history at Freie Universität Berlin, will introduce the movie and relate it to his current research on Palestinians and the Radical Left in West Germany (1956-1982).
