Cinema with Power | Princeton Public Lectures: Social Justice, Power and Politics in India Cinema

Eminent filmmaker Prakash Jha, in conversation with Princeton Historian Gyan Prakash, will introduce the genre of Indian cinema(s) featured recently at the 2023 Oscars. They will discuss the trajectory of Jha’s work and how Indian cinema — the largest film industry in the world, situated in the most populous nation — has represented socio-political issues over the years.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha will discuss socio-political themes in Indian Cinema, including films he has produced/directed –  Gangaajal (2003), Aarakshan (2011), Mrityudand (1997), Rajneeti (2010), and Other Indian Films –  Do Bigha Zameen (1953), Sujata (1959 ),  Hazaar Chaurasi ki Maa (1998), Newton (2017), Article 15 (2019) among others.
